The bridge had to be raised for us and several other boats as well
Amazing to see so much steel rise up
Turn to starboard for the Dismal Swamp Canal
Inside Deep Creek Lock more boats are coming for the other side
This cutie keeps the boat secure against the bulkhead
We were the lead boat, the others are about a mile behind us
Tannin from leaves in the water turns it chocolate brown
Welcome to North Carolina
1) Lets start out with actually cruising down the ICW
2) We waited for a railroad bridge to open so we could go under.
3) Our first lock. Not as scary as I thought.
4) Attempted to rescue a sailboat stuck in the mud while waiting for lock to open. But we failed at that.
5) Tied up to a FREE dock at the NC visitor center.
6) Rafted with other boats.
It was so nice not worrying about winds and seas today. The part of the ICW we went through is called The Dismal Swamp and its anything but. Just slow cruising down a straight path.
Tomorrow we hope to get through 1 more lock and make it to Elizabeth City NC. where there is another free dock. Got to love those.
We are having pasta salad and burgers tonight.
I wish we had gone the Dismal Swamp route ahhhh..next time. And Yes I agree my favorite four letter word....FREE. Enjoy! Lasagne for dinner tomorrow! Wish you were here to enjoy it with us.
